Shiraz Vakil complex

Shiraz Vakil Complex includes baths, mosque, and bazaar. These sections and buildings were built during the reign of Karim Khan Zand and Zandieh.

Shiraz Vakil mosque

Vakil Mosque in Shiraz, which was also called Soltani Mosque, was built in two years by the order of Karim Khan Zand. The total area of Vakil Mosque is about 9600. In this mosque, all kinds of Islamic patterns, stonework and calligraphy have been used. In the southern nave, 48 columns have been erected to support the large roof of the nave. Carving or stonework on these columns is unique. The altar of Vakil Mosque includes tiling and moqranas.

The altar is located on the other side of the mosque and is an annex. The pulpit of the mosque is taller than nowadays' pulpits and has 14 steps and is made of marble. On the northern side of the courtyard of Vakil Mosque in Shiraz, there is a high arch with two finials, which is known as the pearl arch. The pearl arch is 20 meters high and around it a surah of the Quran is written in a semicircle. The general plan of Vakil Mosque is two porches and two north and south naves can be seen in it. In the southern nave, with an area of 5,000 square meters, we see 48 spiral and stone columns. In this part of the mosque, there is a marble pulpit with 14 steps.

Shiraz Vakil historical Bath

Vakil Shiraz bath has an area of 11,000 square meters and its infrastructure is eight thousand six hundred and sixty meters. This monument is 120 meters long and 80 meters wide. When you enter the bathroom through the small entrance door, you will enter the bathroom or the dressing room of the bathroom through a corridor and a porch with a gentle slope. This corridor and slope is due to the adjustment of the air temperature between the outside and inside of the bathroom.

The bathroom is made of octagon and differs from other parts in terms of decorations. One of the unique features of Vakil Shiraz bath is the use of lime in decorating the ceiling and walls. Very beautiful lime decorations can be seen in different parts of this bathroom. The reason they used lime instead of gypsum is that gypsum gradually disappears when exposed to moisture, but lime does not. Lime cutters of Zandieh era are mostly in the form of vase designs. During the Qajar period, beautiful lime decorations were added to the Vakil bath in Shiraz. The bathroom space of Vakil Shiraz was kept warm by the corridors that were installed under the paving of the treasury. In the southern part of the building, there is a treasury in which water was heated by two large boilers. Today, Vakil Bath in Shiraz has become a rich anthropological museum, which can be used to observe the customs, clothing and culture of the ancient people of Shiraz. The building of Vakil Shiraz bath with the number 917 has been registered in the list of national monuments of Iran.
