Dalfak Forest

If you like to have a summer picnic, you had better try Dalfak (Darfak) forest in Gilan province, a forest fraught with moss-covered trees, thick fog, cool air, the scent of rain-soaked soil, the noise from villagers' cattle herds and the charming view of local people's wooden huts.

In the north of the forest, there rests the highest peak of Gilan province (Darfak), which is also called "the Bowl", due to the shape of the peak. The etymology of Darfak or Dalfak word could be found in the books of Muslim historians and geographers of the early Islamic centuries, based on which this name is considered to be derived from the Derbike, Dervek, or Dilfik people; this theory is also seen in the works of contemporary historians. It is noteworthy to say that some other European orientalists and Iranian linguists believe that Dalfak means eagle's nest.

Nature in Dalfak forest

This magical forest has its own spectacular visage in every season. In the first season of the year, the spring shower and the drops falling from the leaves on your head will inspire you with a new sense of life.In the summer, you will encounter the maximum growth of plants and the greenest visage of the forest, which will undoubtedly eliminate all your fatigue in a one-week stay. The most extraordinary season for this forest, however, is autumn. The view of the forest in autumn is artistically painted, just like the paintings of great painters, as yellow, orange, red and brown leaves of short and tall trees will dazzle your eyes. Even though the forest gets very cold in the winter, staying in wooden huts and enjoying the warmth of a wood stove and a hot drink with your loved ones will be an unforgettable memory.

This forest is reminiscent of paradise; accordingly, when you enter Dalfak, you will come across a board with the following content: "This is the place where angels pass. Do not pollute the earth"
