Various legends are told about this citadel; But archaeological research and historical sources attribute the age of the citadel to the time of Bahram V. It seems that this area is one of his hunting grounds. After him, this area gradually expanded and became a big citadel. Architectural features of Ghurtan Citadel:

Ghurtan Citadel is completely enclosed in clay walls with tall guard towers. The thickness of the walls reaches 4 meters and their height reaches 9.5 meters, which shows the strategic importance of it.This 5.5-hectare citadel has a large number of adobe houses, some of which are residential and some are stables for people's domestic animals.2 mosques were also built inside the citadel, which, due to the high age of the citadel, were probably placed on Sasanids fire temples.Of course, the sources have told us that in the past, there were other facilities such as soldiers' garrison, caravansary, two large markets, etc., but today there are no traces of them.Isfahan and Ghurtan Citadel.
