Gav chah Varzaneh

Isfahan Varzaneh Gav Chah is an old technology for collecting water from wells. In areas where water is not supplied by springs and rivers, people thought of inventing another way to use groundwater

. In the town of Varzaneh, a 60-year-old villager supplies water to the surrounding farmland without the use of motors or electricity. In Gav Chah of Varzaneh city, two cows are usually used, one of which raises the water from morning to noon and the other from noon to evening. Cows are selected from Sistani cows because their hump and mane are suitable for use in Gav Chah in Varzaneh. To use Gav Chah, one end of the rope is attached to the cow's neck and the other end to a container called Delu (bucket). As a result, the bucket, which is attached to the well wheel, is lifted from the bottom of the well while it is full of water.

The cow, accustomed to the poems recited by its owner, then begins to descend on a sloping surface called Gav ro, lifting the bucket, which is attached to the well wheel, while it is full of water, from the bottom of the well. His assistant also empties the water from the bucket into the pool behind the well, which was piped to farmland. Among the parts and terms of Gav chah, we can mention Chah, Koka Chah, Quchan, Yuvan, Rand rope, Pach band rope, Kafbandi rope, Tanafchi, Chambare rope, Korak rope. At the time of using this irrigation method, about 3000 square meters of agricultural land was irrigated. This custom has been practiced in previous generations, but with the advancement of technology, it was forgotten for some time, but Haj Ebrahim Heydari revived this tradition. You can join Persiantrips tours to visit Gav Chah of Varzaneh city in Isfahan province.
