Pirnia House

Until 100 years ago, Iran was a country with a governance structure based on tribal supremacy. For this reason, the big and powerful families kept government positions exclusively in their hands.

These rulers built luxurious houses for themselves due to looting and collecting the wealth of common people. One of these houses, which is located in the heart of the desert and in the city of Nain (Isfahan province), is called Pirnia House and belonged to the ruler of Nain in the Safavid era, which is considered one of the best houses in this region.

Let's get to know Nain's ruler house better.

When was Pirnia House built and why is it known by this name?

According to reliable and accurate historical information, this house was built for the ruler of Nain in the Safavid era and was considered the residence of his family. After the fall of the Safavid dynasty and the rise of the Qajar dynasty, this house was bought by the great and famous Pirnia family (the famous Iranian historian Hassan Pirnia was a member of this family) and it was in the hands of the heirs of this family until the fall of Pahlavi.

After the establishment of the Islamic Republic, Iranian Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization announced this house as the Kavir Anthropology Museum, where precious heritages are exhibited.

The architecture and various components of the Pirnia House:

The characteristics of Safavid architecture include: symmetry, repetition of structure in the building, the presence of geometric shapes in the structure, frequent and consecutive moqarnas, serrate stucco, etc. can be seen completely in Pirnia House. The magical coloring of the interior and the paintings on the walls dazzle the eyes of every viewer. In the paintings in different parts of this building, you can see geometry, plant motifs, dragons, flowers, chickens, and various animals.

Like all Iranian desert houses, the Pirnia house consists of multiple corridors, vestibule, living room, royal porch, interior, garden and various other parts on two floors. After converting Pirnia's house into Kavir Anthropology Museum, many objects such as: metal containers, coins, weapons, glazed dishes for eating, clothes, lighting devices, etc. have been displayed in it.

Pirnia House is both historical and the birthplace of the great historian of contemporary Iran. Nain desert is waiting for you!!!
