Niasar Cave

The history of Iran is full of events and places that no information about them remained in the texts and were forgotten in the historical books. These missingpeople of Iranian history were found only with the help of archeology in the last two centuries

, and still a large number of them are unknown.Rais Cave or Niasar Cave, which is located near Kashan (Niasar city), was one of these lost ones, which happens to be one of the strangest ancient places in Iran.Let's dig a little deeper into the hidden history.

What is the history of Niasar cave?

Contrary to popular belief, Niasar cave is not a natural phenomenon and was dug by humans. No text has informed about the existence of this cave, and for this reason, it is not possible to determine the exact time of its construction. In the last century, the cave was fully discovered with the explorations of the explorers. However, according to the tools and objects discovered in this cave, researchers and scientists consider the cave to belong to the Parthian or Sassanid era. (This guess also has a difference of about 400 years!!!) In the Islamic era, there is no information about the cave in the texts, but with the help of the discovered objects related to the Seljuk and Ilkhanate periods, it was determined that this cave was used in the Islamic era as well.

Architecture and use of Niasar cave:

Architectural features: This three-story cave includes a series of winding tunnels and chambers (20 rooms) with a length of more than 2400 meters and an area of 180 square kilometers. The width of the cave is approximately 1 meter along the entire route and the largest room is 30 meters. The internal walls are also strengthened by a combination of mortar.Application: Most of the researchers today believe that due to its proximity to the fire place, it was a kind of place of worship and was also used as a military barracks in the Islamic era. However, considering the type of design and excavation of the cave and the fact that there are no reports in the texts, this cave has most likely been a refuge for the people of the central plateau of Iran in all ages.
